This quaint village in the Beawar Tehsil of Ajmer in Rajasthan is located about 5,649km to the west from the Ajmer district headquarters. Since Taragarh does not have any railway station, people reach through nearby villages like Kishanpura, Dewata, and Jawaja etc. The nearest railway station is the Ajmer Junction, which is about 2.4kms away. Being a small village in the Beawar Tehsil, the population of this location isn’t very high. You can enjoy the peaceful and cool atmosphere. While touring Ajmer, it’s recommended to visit this town for its lesser known wonders. Take a look at the following places you can visit.
1. Taragarh Fort
The Taragarh fort is located on top of the Nagpahari hill or the Taragarh hill. At the foot of the 800 feet hill is the city of Ajmer, and the famous Ajmer-Sharif Dargah. The trek on the hill can be enjoyed through travelling in a jeep. The route has a lot of twists and turns and you get a panoramic view of the city once you’re on top. The fort, atop Taragarh — also known as Garh Beetli — is in a dilapidated state but a sought after tourist spot nonetheless due to the battles it has held during the reign of the Rajputs and Mughals. It had also once been used by European troops as a sanatorium. The fort, although in ruins, is a historical location like the city of Ajmer, which consists of various such historical places. Tourists are often attracted to the view that they get from the top of Garh Beetli.
2. Ajmer-Sharif Dargah
Located at the foot of the Taragarh hill, Ajmer-Sharif Dargah is the most famous attraction of the city of Ajmer. Tourists arrive in a large number to pay their respects, and the Dargah is flanked with people all year long. The shrine is dedicated to Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, who spread Islam in Ajmer during the year 1192 AD. A very pious and significant spot for Muslim pilgrims, the Ajmer-Sharif Dargah is visited not only by Muslims, but by people of all religion and creed. Due to its immense popularity and well-known history, the Dargah is visited by nearly every tourist in Ajmer. In fact, it is said that people visit Ajmer only to go to the legendary shrine.
3. Dargah Of Meeran Syed Hussain
Hazrat Syed Meeran Hussain (a staunch devotee of Khwaja Garib Nawas) was the Garrison Commander of Taragarh fort, appointed by Sultan Ghauri. During a battle with the Rajputs upon this fort after the fall of Qutub-ud-din Aibak, Hazrat Syed Meeran was martyred along with his fellow warriors. Khwaja Garib Nawas visited the fort upon hearing about this battle, and buried the martyrs with the help of his followers after the Namaz-e-Janaza. The Dargah was created as a tribute to Hazrat Syed Meeran Hussain, and Muslims — as well as tourists — are found at this spot to pay their respects.
4. Roopangarh Fort, Kishangarh
The Roopangarh fort is located in the city of Kishangarh, which is close to the Taragarh hill. Named after Maharaja Roop Singh, the fort was built in 1648 AD. The fort has now been converted into a palatial hotel called the Phool Mahal Palace. The place still has a few of its historic roots, and people who have an interest in history of the fort often find themselves looking for the remains of this beautiful fortress. Tourists enjoy the serenity and view from the hotel, which is a famous location of Kishangarh.
5. Jama Al-Tamish Or Adhai Din-Ka-Jhonpra
Another tourist attraction located at the foot of the Taragarh hill, Dhai Din-Ka-Jhonpra is considered to be a building that takes pride in being a location of great historical importance, as it is also one of the oldest. The area, known as Ankerkot, is the house of this mosque, which was the creation of Sultan Ghauri in 525 AD. It is said that Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti often prayed at this historical mosque that is now considered a monument. A common belief is that the mosque was built in two-and-a-half days—Dhai Din—as its name goes. Quran verses have been engraved all over the building, making this monument one of the most artistic architectures of India.
Taragarh is a small village that has its roots in the city of Ajmer, which is considered to be one of the most historical locations in itself. The rich heritage and monumental importance of Ajmer is reason enough for tourists to arrive, and spend time exploring the various attractive locations. These small villages that hold such value give added significance to the glorious city of Ajmer.
