Top 10 Places To Visit In Ranchi

‘The City of Waterfalls’ as Ranchi is famously called, is one of the most privileged places on earth that enjoys nature’s generosity in its fullness. The capital of Jharkhand is a feast to your eyes and soul. The hilly topography of Ranchi earned it the name ‘Hill station’ during British reign. Its geographical position and the dense forests around make the place a heaven on earth. Here are the top 10 destinations in Ranchi.

1. Hundru Falls

It is quite natural to name a water fall as the number one destination in a land that is called ‘The City of Waterfalls’. Located at 45kms away from Ranchi, the spectacular waterfalls is a favorite tourist destination. The river Subarnarekha falls down from 320 feet height thus forming Hundru Falls. You need to go down 750 stairs to reach the foot of the waterfalls and you would love every second of it as you climb down hearing the roaring of water and chirping of birds.

2. Birsa Zoological Park

One of the best and considered to rank amongst the most beautiful zoos in the country, Birsa Zoological Park is worth every second you spend here. Spanning an area of 104 hectares of land, which is mildly uneven, the zoo is a real home to wild animals. The natural forests with water bodies make you feel that you have entered the wild forest to view the animals. It is just 16km away from the city’s center. Birsa Zoological Park is divided into two by National Highway. The larger area is the home of wild animals and the smaller area is thoroughly a botanical section. Some of the animals found in the zoo include lion, tiger, hyena, fox, wild cats, barking deer and elephants.

The zoo is home to a beautiful Rose Garden as well. The artificial lake in the zoo has boating facilities. This eco-friendly zoo is also called as Birsa Munda Jaivik Udyan.

3. Rock Garden

Rock Garden in Ranchi is considered second only next to the Jaipur Garden. Rocks from Gonda Hills were carved to create this beautiful garden and the statues inside. Kanke Dam, which lies at the bottom of Gonda Hills, adds more attraction to the landscape.

4. Dassam Falls

Located 34 kms from Ranchi, Dassam Falls is a scenic destination that delights tourists. Falling from a height of 144 feet, the waterfalls is a real sight to watch leave alone bathe. Children are strictly prohibited from bathing here. The falls is also known as Dassam Gagh. You would love viewing the water fall from a great height in full flow during rainy season.

5. Jonha Falls

Situated around 40 kms from the city, Jonha Falls is yet another breathtaking falls in Ranchi. It would be an interesting exercise to climb down the 700 odd steps to gain access to the waterfalls. Surrounded by dense forests, the views are enchanting.

6. Ranchi Lake

Ranchi Lake is located at the foot of Ranchi Hill, which is at the center of the city and hence tourists frequent this place in great numbers. The view of the hill and the vast expanse of water mesmerize you. The lake was excavated in 1842 by Colonel Onsley. Boating facilities are available here. It is a perfect place to unwind on a quiet evening watching the sunset as the cool breeze gently plays around.

7. Sun Temple

Sun Temple is one of the most frequented tourist destinations in Ranchi. It is a wonderful display of architecture. With 18 wheels and driven by seven horses, the uniquely designed Sun Temple looks majestic. Sanskrit Vihar, a charitable trust constructed the temple.

8. Jagannath Temple

The 17th century situated on hilltop is a major attraction in the city. Jagannath Temple looks very much like the Puri Jagannath Temple and it is considered the second largest Jagannath Temple next to Puri Temple. You can have an excellent view of the city from here.

9. Nakshatra Van

The park Nakshatra Van was created by the Forest Department of Jharkhand. The term ‘Nakshatra’ refers to the stars. It is believed by Hindu astrologers that every star in zodiac has association with a tree. Nakshatra Van is designed in such a way that the park and the trees resemble the zodiac signs. Whether you believe in astrology or not, you will love the way the park is designed with colorful flowers and a musical fountain at the center.

10. Panch Gagh Falls

Located at about 55 kms from Ranchi, Panch Gagh Falls is on Ranchi-Chakradharpur Road. The waterfalls consist of five streams, which look awesome as they fall from a great height. The picnic spot at the foot of the waterfalls add charm to the location. You will be excited by the sheer beauty of the five falls and will be spellbound by the serenity of the place.
